Wallpaper Rolls Calculator

Estimate rolls needed including pattern repeat and waste.

How does the wallpaper calculator work?

The calculator determines how many full-length strips you can cut from one roll, accounting for ceiling height and pattern repeat. It then divides the wall width by the roll width to find how many strips you need, adds 10% for trimming and waste, and finally calculates the total number of rolls. Enter your wall dimensions, the roll specifications, and the pattern repeat (if your wallpaper has a matching pattern). The result is rounded up to whole rolls — you'll never run short.

How to use the Wallpaper Rolls Calculator

Measure the width and height of the wall you plan to cover. Enter the roll width and length from the wallpaper label (standard European rolls are 0.53 m wide and 10.05 m long). If the wallpaper has a pattern, enter the repeat value (printed on the label). Click "Calculate" to see how many rolls to buy. For multiple walls, either sum the widths or calculate each wall separately and add the results.

Example calculation

Wall 4 m wide, 2.5 m high, standard roll (0.53 m × 10.05 m), pattern repeat 0.26 m: Strips needed = 4 ÷ 0.53 ≈ 7.55 → 8 strips. With pattern match, strips per roll ≈ 3. Total rolls = 8 ÷ 3 ≈ 2.67 → 3 rolls. The calculator handles all these calculations automatically.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if my wallpaper has no pattern repeat?

Enter 0 (zero) for the pattern repeat. The calculator then assumes a straight match and uses only the wall height to determine how many strips you can cut from each roll.

Should I buy one extra roll just in case?

Many professionals recommend buying an extra roll for future repairs, especially if the wallpaper pattern might be discontinued. The calculator already includes a 10% waste margin, but keeping a spare roll is always wise for long-term peace of mind.
