Room Area Calculator

Calculate floor and wall area for paint or flooring.

How does the room area calculator work?

This calculator quickly computes floor area (length × width), wall area (2 × (length + width) × height), or both combined. Select what you need to calculate — floor only, walls only, or the total for the entire room. Enter the room dimensions in meters, and click "Calculate". Perfect for estimating material quantities for painting, flooring, tiling, or skirting boards before starting any renovation project.

How to use the Room Area Calculator

Choose the calculation mode from the dropdown. Enter the room's length and width in meters. If calculating walls or total room area, also enter the ceiling height. Click "Calculate" to instantly see the area in square meters. The wall calculation uses the total perimeter and does not subtract doors or windows — subtract those areas separately for precise paint or tile estimates.

Example calculations

Room 5 m long, 4 m wide, 2.5 m high. Floor = 5 × 4 = 20 m². Wall area = 2 × (5 + 4) × 2.5 = 45 m². Total (floor + walls) = 20 + 45 = 65 m². The calculator shows all three results instantly based on your mode selection.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I subtract doors and windows from the wall area?

Yes, for accurate paint or wallpaper estimates, subtract the area of doors (about 2 m² each) and windows (about 1.5 m² each). The calculator gives the total raw wall area — deduct openings manually for precise material requirements.

Can I use this for non-rectangular rooms?

This calculator assumes a rectangular room. For L‑shaped or irregular rooms, divide the space into rectangular sections, calculate each separately, and sum the results. The same principle applies — the calculator just handles one rectangle at a time.
